The blood test results have been released, and my worries were gone!!!I was shocked by my own face in the morning of 25th January which was the Chinese New Year Eve, as both my eyes and face were swollen from no reason. My face was so red and my eyes were only half of their normal size. The scariest thing was that it had NEVER happened before. I blamed myself for sleeping over 9 hours.
The symptoms lasted 5 days. I didn’t go anywhere but the hospital on the New Year Day. The doctor told me that the symptoms of an allergy were very similar to those of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at the early stage. It was definitely the butterfly-shaped rash across the face that made the doctor give me such a warning. He said that if the red marks didn’t fade away a few days later, I needed to take a blood test.
Up till now, the cause of this ‘pig-head’ look has remained unknown.
My sister said it was caused by the flowers I bought. The night before I became a 'pig-head', I went to the flower market and bought a lot of flowers including a bunch of ping-pong chrysanthemums, which were the only new type of flowers I ever bought. Without a better solution, I took my sister's advice, throwing away all the flowers ($$$) except the daffodils. I really couldn’t bear celebrating the New Year without the fragrance of daffodils.
My husband said it was the clam soup we drank in a Japanese restaurant we regularly visit, which was the only new dish we ordered.
On the forth day, my husband said it was perhaps the sale of our apartment, which might have broken the good ‘feng shui’ we’ve been enjoying. He then told me to do something really superstitious; I simply followed suit.
To be frank, I had been frightened for a few days. The more Harold came to ask if I was alright, the harder I dismissed the gloomy thoughts from my mind. Harold was particularly sweet these few days; he tried not to ignore any of my requests. Since I was feeling very drowsy after taking the medicine, I spent the whole evening lying in bed on the New Year Day. Before Harold and his dad went for the family gathering, he came into my room many times, trying to see if the red marks were gone. He was so disappointed to find the swelling and the redness remained unchanged. His eyes were in tears when he was asking if I would become as weak as his aunt who was suffering from Melanoma (black mole cancer).
I asked both of the ‘gentlemen’ at home whether they would stay away from me if my 'pig-head' look was going to last forever. Their replies and reactions were so pleasing.
To play safe, I did a blood test on the fifth day and finally I received the results today.Everyone was overjoyed when I announced to them that the blood test results indicated that I am perfectly normal.
Now, I truly realize that nothing is more important than good health. This might be the reason why I could stay so calm when hearing about the lay-off proposals released by the company my husband works for.
